Francisco Amaya: Beheld but Unknown

“I like to meditate on the patterns all around us that carry an inexplicable meaning, a feeling that starts with the eyes but ends up floating in the space inches above the head – beheld, but unknown,” Amaya explains.

These patterns recur in his paintings in the intimate similarity of trees, maps, telephone lines- indicators of the web-like lattice that structures his reality while his drawings evoke the architectural ghosts that inhabit the urban space.

Neal Iwan is a versatile artist and illustrator living in Richmond,Virginia. "What Are the Odds" focuses on the lure of the horse and horse racing and Iwan captures the beauty of the animals and the excitement and movement of the race course in this new series of paintings.

Tom McCormack: Chemicals in Balance

March 5th to 27th, 2010

Tom McCormack is a musician and artist from Petersburg, Virginia who creates acid etchings on steel collected from historic industrial buildings which he uses as inspiration for his work. His method captures the dramatic and desolate beauty of these deserted factories.

Tom says, "It's not uncommon to see a footprint rusted into the plates from a worker who moved the goods through the buildings."

The artist also creates work on commission.

An internationally known and acclaimed photographer, Deborah Turbeville’s poetic and distinctive style has placed her in the forefront of fashion and architectural photography worldwide. Her 1975 “Bath House” series, produced for Vogue, established her as a dominant figure in contemporary photography and as an artist with an intense personal vision.

“I have an instinct for finding the odd location, the dismissed face, the eerie atmosphere, the oppressive mood. . . ” These words perfectly describe the haunting photographs that draw the viewer into Turbeville’s graceful and ambiguous narratives.
